Bast, or Bastet, is an Egyptian goddess of protection. Bastet was usually seen as a gentle protective goddess. However, she sometimes appeared with the head of a lioness to protect the pharaoh in battle. She was also protecting Ra and gained the titles of Lady of Flame and Eye of Ra. The cat is the symbol of Bast.
